Cultural Domain Analysis

  • University of Puerto Rico–Cayey Cayey, Puerto Rico (map)

This one-day workshop introduces methods of cultural domain analysis (CDA), an approach derived from cognitive anthropology to study cultural knowledge and systems of meaning. Data collection techniques in this tradition include free listing, pile sorting, triad tests, and ratings or rankings. Analytic methods include multidimensional scaling, cluster analysis, and consensus analysis. This workshop provides a conceptual framework for how best to integrate CDA in ethnographic research and offers an opportunity to gain familiarity with the methods through hands-on exercises.
